While our development team has dealt with a wide spectrum of optical problems and has produced many experimental and production-level optics, we are currently specializing in the following four primary areas:

Large Superpolished Optics
One of our primary goals is to develop polishing methods for producing ultra smooth optics. We have already made dramatic strides in our polishing techniques, routinely producing mirrors which surpass most astronomical-grade mirrors in surface smoothness. High-grade astronomical mirrors have a surface roughness of 2.0 to 3.0 nm rms, whereas our superpolished optics have surface roughness of 0.6 to 0.8 nm rms and reduce scattered light in the visible region by a factor of 10 or more by using centrifugal elutriation. more...

Lightweight Adaptive Optics
We design and construct composite cyanate ester adaptive optic mirrors of round, square or hexagonal shapes in various sizes up to 1 meter in diameter. (We have the capability of making mirrors up to 2 meters in size with conventional microroughness but are concentrating on the fabrication of mirrors 1-meter diameter or smaller.) more...

Light Scatter Evaluation
In pursuit of techniques for producing ultra smooth optical surfaces, we are constantly developing our capabilities of precisely measuring surface smoothness. We are currently constructing a new microroughness analyzer which measures smoothness by precisely metering the amount of laser light scattered by an optical surface. more...

Interferometric testing
We have designed an interferometer that uses a laser beam to analyze various aspects of the performance of an adaptive optics mirror. more...
